I can't find any info. Does my sled exist?
I bought a 1998 vmax 600xt 2up machine. I can find specs on the 1up but not the 2up. ie: track size. Can anyone help?

first thing to consider is your vin number. it tells the story, although yamaha did alot of one offs for you guys up north along with the european markets.
there were alot of optional parts along with aftermarket parts that one could easily take a standard model, add the 2 up seat along with a suspension upgrade to compensate.
then there the possibility of a simple hood swap as most all the pro-action chassis's from 97-2000 would interchange. one could easily place a vmax hood on a venture chassis and cause a few double takes.
whats the first three digits of your vin #? loacted on the right side, just below where the tank and seat meet.

8du... I bought it from a guy who said that he had a bit of trouble putting a plate on it. He warned me to bring the sled with me when getting a plate.

probably a good thing you were forewarned. you have a few inconsistencies occurring all at once for whatever reason. not at all trying to create any panic on your part as i have been through similar situations in the past, just attempting to guide you through.
with that vin #, the tunnel on your sled originated from a 98 700. base model would have been the sx chassis with the upgrades from the factory to make it a 2 up sled, hence the different prefix. basically the same component(specs) as the sx chassis, with a few changes. a number of things could have changed along the way.
engine id would be my next question. the 600's and the 700's shared a lot of the same components, biggest difference is the bore on the cylinders, there a number on it that tells the story.
there is a flat spot on the recoil side of the engine, just behind the recoil that will have the engine id number stamped on it. guessing at this point that it wont be a true indication as to the displacement, but it will verify what the bottom end was originally.
a 600 top end is a direct bolt on and vise versa with the 700. just need the pistons and cylinders from the respective donors along with a matching cdi to make a 600 a 700 or a 700 a 600.
yours situation is unique, but with the right info, shouldnt be too bad to sort out.

I was lookingat the reg. papers for that vin whrn I posted. Its is actually 8DV on the side of the machine. Looks like a Venture. Maybe just a hood swap? I will check the other things that you mentioned. Thanks.

that sled have reverse and electric start?
if you werent aware, i listed all the vin numbers for yamaha sleds. its in the sticky section.
hood changes easily make the sled look like another, its the numbers and the options that set them apart.

basing on your vin and the goodies, your showing a 98 vmax xtrb. basically a vmax with the 2 up option, e-start and reverse, with the long travel suspension.

yours should be a 121", 2.52 pitch, 15" wide, with about a 3/4" lug unless its been altered.
you can confirm by counting either the drive lugs on the inside or the track windows and multiplying by 2.52.
