maje1999,

First off, if the machine has been sitting for two years, it's time to do a compression test to find out what condition the top end is in, (120 lbs minumum each cylinder) and do a good carb cleaning along with checking the fuel pump! Pull the carbs and fuel pump and give them a good cleaning, making sure all ports and passages are free from any obstructions. Also, pull the seat, pop the rubber cap off the fuel tank, pull the fuel filter out and replace it. After the carbs are clean, re-install them and sync the carbs, and set the air screws for the pilot jets around 3/4 of a turn out from seated for a starting point.

In regard to the primary clutch, is it a stock Yamaha or a Comet? Whatever it is, it needs to be pulled, cleaned and gone through. All the rollers, weights, buttons, etc, need to be inspected, cleaned and replaced if neccessary. The reason I asked if it's a Yamaha or Comet is, if it's Yamaha, your going to need to take out a small second loan on your house to afford the parts! (Ha) Anyway, if the machine has been sitting for any length of time you'll need to go through the clutch and find out what spring is in the primary and replace it also, they (spring) should be replaced every two years if you ride quite alot.

I personally have two Exciters, they are relatively easy to maintain and they will provide hours of enjoyment if you take care of them, just like any other mechanical machine. Finally, get on Ebay or go to your local Yamaha Dealer and order a repair manual for it because you'll find yourself constantly refering to the manual for track adjustments and everything else required to maintain the machine!

Good Luck!

Dave
