The never ending story....

Well it's been months now. Dropped off the sled at a shop and they rebuilt the 340cc motor and used the 410cc top end on it. New pistons, and whatever else was required. new wiring harness was eventually added and everything was buttoned up and put into the chassis.

1 pull....
1 more pull...

eventually it came down to the stator is pooched.
So what can I expect now.
Looking to replace the stator obviously. Can someone give me an idea on cost and where to get one and if it's better to just buy new or to get something used?

thanks for any help... even tho the season is over now lol.

depending on which ignition your currently running, the electrical components are replaceable individually and still be available new oem parts or aftermarket at places like dennis kirk. i have had mixed results with the aftermarkets, new oem parts can be spendy, used can be a viable source if the seller is reliable and each of the components can be tested.

what exactly are you experiencing for issues and what lead you to the stator?

it wasn't me that figured it out it was the mechanic. I'll be talking with him tomorrow so I'll know more then. All I know is that the suspension, track, and everything else is in great shape. With the motor fully rebuilt and then him waiving all the labour charges because in the end He couldn't get it going and he had it for nearly 5 months I'm ahead of the game to maybe get a few rides in before everything melts up here.

The 85 block was mated to the 94 top end and I'm not sure what is used in the stator but I believe he switched it out with a borrowed one for trouble shooting and it ran fine then.

around a $50 part for an oem new coil and should still be available. well worth it to get things going.

curious as to the outcome.

yeah the part he was talking about was alot more then 50bucks. Even the stators I've seen on ebay are going from 80 -140 used.

again it will depend on which ignition. chances are if your experiencing a no spark condition, you will need a pulser coil or a charge coil. there are also lighting coils in there as well.

all can be resistance checked with a digital ohmmeter. although your mention of swapping with a known good one cured the problem?

whats the 85 engine out of or what was it in originally? (which model 340). the pulse coils do vary in price depending on model, and some will interchange with different models.

well the coils that look like a coil from say a ford or something are good I know that.
The model you said the 340 was from is an 85 enticer long track. previous thread you helped me figure out the motor serial number.

do you know which coil was swapped that made the sled run?

something behind the recoil(pull rope) or the one to the spark plugs?

the pulse coil located behind the recoil and under the magneto was shared with several models. chances are i have some good used ones. any of the coils are replaceable separately, just need to know which one made your sled go.
