97 vmax gas in the oil tank???

After a long cold ride home from northern Michigan, and after being parked in a heated garage for two days to thaw out I unloaded the vmax and noticed the oil tank was full. Odd? Or can did the gas tank, from heat expansion, back feed to the oil tank somehow? Oil did smell like gas. What should I look for, oil pump? Rode 200 hard miles Sunday without a problem. Thanks for any input Tim

did you fill the fuel tank prior to trailering or parking in the garage? there is at least one check valve, if not more, on that sled to control the oil flow.

since the oil pump sends oil to the fuel pump to be injected into the carbs, you could very well have a kinked or clogged fuel tank vent, a bad fuel pump, bad check valve, or some other issue with the fuel/oil lines.

Opened the fuel tank to check and there was suction/ pressure in the tank. Is the vent in the cap or hose somewhere else?

theres a vent line attached to the top front of the tank. its under the plastic piece that covers the tank. it will route to the right attached to the steering hoop, bend back, and exit on the left side following the steering hoop down behind the secondary clutch into the belly pan. find the end of the vent line and give it a suck or blow with the air gun to verify its not blocked or kinked.

another trick to consider is to not fill the tank full prior to transport. leave the fuel level down a few inches below the white ring inside the tank.

Finally got around to fix my problem, it was a pinched vent line. Must have happened when I removed/reinstalled the gas tank. wow should have caught that before, cost me a new fuel pump. Thanks for all the help!!!!
