Your sled should be a 1985 EC340 Excell III

dribble about a soda bottle cap full of premixed fuel down each spark plug hole and fire it up.

your going to want to be sure you have fresh fuel in the tank and then be prepared to clean the carb. of course you may want to charge up the battery if you dont want to pull on the rope.

You need to clean the carb.

most likely a carb issue, but you may factor in the fuel pump, fuel supply lines, pulse line, vent lines, etc. worst case, crank seals.

do some checking under the hood.

The excel III only has one carb, but it sounds like it needs cleaned. It is easer to get the carb out on these if you remove the air box screws first and remove them both.

sometimes starting your own thread gets more results, but to answer your questions and these are opinions only, i prefer the semi-synthentic yamalube 2S. non ethanol is your fuel of choice, and although its not needed, if you consider the state of the fuel at hand, most times the 91 octane is your best choice. if your looking at 87 and its already degraded, you may be in trouble. with the 91, even if its a bit on the older side, your ahead of the game for fuel requirements. remember that back when that girl was in her prime the fuel quality was much better than they are these days. a few extra dollars at fill up is still cheaper than pistons and cylinders.
