1998 Vmax XT 600. Anyone have any knowledge of them?

Hey there guys. Just joined. I recently bought a 98 Vmax XT 600 Twin and i can not find any info on it at all! If anyone can help me out it would be great.

Im trying to figure out first and foremost if this is a reliable sled overall. What are the weak points of the sled? What should i watch out for? Should i run premium in this sled or is 87 fine? How many miles can i expect to get out of a tank of gas and how big is the gas tank!

Last question i promise. When i first crank the sled over being cold or hot. The water temp light flashes 3 times then goes away. Almost like a dummy light in a car. Im assuming this is normal?

Sorry for the barrage of questions guys!

You are correct, that is a self test.

You should run 87 in it and the 600 twins are basically bullet proof.

congrats on the purchase and welcome.

the 600 twins were great sleds. the 98's may or may not have the corrected rings. how many miles does your sled have now?

two known weak points were the ring issue and the primary clutch. not that the clutch had any issues, but lack of routine maintenance shortened the life of the wear components. for some reason the twins liked to quickly wear out the bushings in both the rollers and the weights.

as for the flashing light, that is a self diagnosis function. the three flash is normal, and in addition, if other conditions arise pertaining to this function, other flash codes will display pinpointing problems.

if your in the states, your fuel capacity is almost 12 gals or 45 liters. some other info that may be interesting or not:
dry weight: 509 lbs
overall length: 108.7"
width: 47.2"
ski stance:42"
front travel: 9"
rear travel: 11.5"

mileage would depend on snow conditions and riding style. my 97 saw a few trips over 100 miles with fuel to spare with the wife riding it. if your sled is stock, no aftermarket pipe or can, regular unleaded fuel is fine, if its good.

sorry, far from genius, just so happened that i had a call from someone looking for elevation specs for a 98 msrx and i had the technical update manual in front of me when i saw the post.

no way i could remember the specs, the issues however are still in the brain as i have lived and learned from having owned those twins from 93-97.
