Yamaha Vmax Vin Check?

I have a 1996 Yamaha Vmax 600 and the vin number is only 9 digits. How can I do a check to see the info on this sled?

There's a free Vmax manual available for download here (scroll down to the last post on page 2 I just made in the thread that tells you how to access it-it's hidden in a Skidoo file):http://www.snowmobileforum.com/engin...e-manuals.html

The manual shows you how to decode your VIN (look for it under "Machine Information", "General Specifications", and possibly the '95-'96 supplemental manuals to find your particular model).

for the 96 600's, first three digits of the vin:

8CA=standard model
8CG=dx model (2 up)
8CF=le model(electric start)
8CC=mtn max
8BV=xt

more than likely thats an "F". check the stickys at the top and look in the how to, theres a complete list of vins.

on your sled, have the next four digits available. 94-96 used the same prefix, year is confifured based on subsequent numbers.

This is red Yamaha vmax 600 ST (136") double seat, with electric start. I double check vin number and it's no doubt it is an "E" (8CE-001154) and i checked the vin on the motor and it is same number 8CE-001154. When i bought this sled i was told it was '94 but i downloaded service manual for vmax 1994 - 2006 and i noticed the secondary clutch is not like 94's it is like 95 - 96, but maybe it have bin replaced

Thank you

whats the chances your in canada or somewhere in yamahas european market area? all the vins i listed were for the us market and yours flat doesnt show up.

swapping the secondaries out was popular on those sleds and easily done. another thing to verify would be one piece or two piece jackshaft, but that may have been changed as well.
