HELP Plz... No speedo/odo reading.

Im new to snowmobiles and I picked up a 1997 Yamaha V-Max XTC 600. I took it for a ride last week to find out there is no speedometer or odometer reading. BTW... the tach works fine. But anyways, I took the time tonight to check out the cable, cable looked to be fine, so i used a drill to the end of the cable (under the clutch) and I spun it and got the speedo to register speed. So the cable and speedometer guage its self must be good, where do i go from here? Is there a sending unit, or what could be wrong with it? Thanks... need help quick.

what u have to do will involve a little work......you will have to take apart your sprocket on the side that the speedo wire goes into, inside you will find a small rectangular peace about an inch long........you actually might not find this piece seeing how it isnt working, and if its in there and it broke off, you will have to find a way to get it out.....all u have to do than is replace that small piece and it should work. this is what i has to do on my older arctic cat, so i hope its set up the same

I have the exact same problem with my 2000 mountain max 600. Can anyone go into more detail about exactly what I have to take apart to fix this. I havent ever worked on sleds before so any help would be great. Thanks.
