1996 V-max 600 NEED HELP

Hey guys,
I posted this question in the general engine/drivetrain section but didn't get much of a response. Here is the problem I am having:

I have a question about a 1996 Yamaha V-max 600. . When I first got the thing it seemed great. Had plenty of power to spare. However, something major happened this season. I was returning home from a pretty long ride ( approx. 15-20 miles ) The sled ran great througout the ride. I had it well over 80 m.p.h. on some stretches. However, when I went to open her up on the last good long straight-away before my house something happened. I was going approx. 70-80 m.p.h. when it seemed almost as though the engine back-fired and it came to a sudden stop. Upon trying to restart the sled I found that the pull cord was very tight, practically locked up and I could not pull the cord to restart the sled. After I towed the sled back to the house, I went through the basics.I found that the spark plug in the right-hand cylinder had it's spark post pushed completely down against the electrode as though the piston had traveled to far and topped out against the spark plug. I regapped the plug and stuck it back in. I did get the sled to restart but now it has a very rough and noisy idle. Also the sled will only run at about 40 m.p.h tops and it is very unresponsive. Any thoughts or solutions?

You have probable wrecked a piston and some piece of the piston hit the spark plug.

You did something to that side. Do a compression test to see if it's above 120 lbs.

checked the compression...

O.K. I checked the compression. The strange thing is that I am getting a reading of approx. 125 on the cylinder that I found had the spark plug electrode mashed down. The other cylinder shows no compression reading at all. Is that normal?

Question

Any thoughts as to why only one side is registering on the compression test? Even without the spark plug you can't really feel any air being pushed out of that cylinder. The funny thing is that now my 500 V-max is acting like a dog. I did a compression check on that one and I get the same results. If you are sitting on the sled it is the right hand cylinder on both sleds that I get no compression reading from. Any ideas anyone?
