1976 Yamaha GP440 - New to forum & snowmobiles!

Hello,

My name is Pete and I'm new to this forum, and snowmobiles! I just acquired a 1976 Yamaha GP 440 snowmobile. This machine was a barn find and was sitting in a barn since 1986! It only has 1,976 miles on the clock and is in good to excellent condition. Here are some pictures of it:

It will need a fuel tank from sitting all these years, but I have located one locally for pretty cheap money.

My goal is to learn as much about this machine as possible, and hopefully get a service manual for it.

Thank you,
Pete

Nice find! Why not just clean the tank and put the money some where else?

welcome to the site! that sled is not even worth messing with. i suggest you load it up immediately and deliver it to me so i can properly dispose of it for you. the federal govt passed new legislation concerning snowmobile disposal and i am the only one in the country with the proper credentials. just dont tell anyone. just kidding, or was i? nice find!

If you go to the sticky threads at the top of the Yamaha forum, you might find the service manual for it. By the way, welcome and congrats on the vintage sled.

Thank you erikrkane. Just noticed you live in Franklin. I live outside of Concord..what a small world! What is your name?

The tank is leaking from all the seams so I have no choice but to purchase another tank. I've located one for $40.00 which is not to bad.

I traded a snowblower for this snowmobile so I feel that I've gotten the better end of the deal for sure.

I acquire, fix and sell power equipment on the side. As of now, I own 7 snowblowers and a bunch of other power equipment. With that, I decided to let one go.

I’ve never owned a snowmobile before, just ATC's and ATV's so I'm pretty excited about this machine, even though it's 34 years young.

Hey, I love the older sleds myself as you can see but I'm going to start investing in a newer sled probably next summer

How much you looking to get for the 200e?

I'm looking to get $450.00 for the 200E and it comes with an extra engine and other parts. It does need a little TLC but it starts on the very first pull

Here are two pictures of it.

For you, I'm willing to let it go for $325.00 (without the parts). This machine is pretty rare and I need to make room in my garage.

Just wanted to let you know that I now own this sled and I love it. When I first got it, it was not running so but when we brought it home, we had it running in 15 minutes, but it was sputtering a whole lot. So I then replaced the fuel lines and now it runs like a top and I have registered it to ride this season. I plan to put a new speedo cable in so all of the gauges work. I also replaced a few bulbs and all the lights are also working, high and low beams. I will eventually put on a new windshield, but for now the old one works... I just have to Frankenstein it together. I am looking for the rear handlebars for a second passenger, if anybody finds a set please let me know!
