Need some yamaha info
Going to be getting another sled soon. Want to know if anyone has ridden a yamaha sx600/700 or a sxViper. How do these compare to a mxz600/670? What would you go with and why?
Thanks

if i was you, i would go with the ski doo.....i have rode the sx700 before, and to tell you the truth...it flat out sucks. The suspension is horrible...i couldn't stand riding that thing. It did have a lot of power, but you couldn't use it unless you plan on riding lakes because if your on a trail with any kind of bumps on it, you will hate yourself

That seems to be everyones opinion; yamahas have godd power but bad suspension. I have rode MXZ 600 and it does feel amazing.

I definately agree that the MXZ is THE MUCH BETTER sled. The Yamaha suspensions are really hard to control in rough corners. I really don't like the suspensions at all. They have good engines... but they aren't much good except on lakes.
I was in drooling over an MXZ 500 today myself. My Zr has 4500 hard miles on it and I was thinking about trading in.. but I have decided to wait another year since we have no snow here.
The MXZ 500 I was looking at was a 2002 and was for sale for $4500 new. (Really great price.) I want a 2002 Zr CC edition, but they are $1200 more than an MXZ 500... I just can't sustify the added cost.
I think you would me much happier riding the MXZ.

I have a Viper. I don't know if I'd say the suspension is bad, its just different. Things can get pretty shitty really fast if you go into a sharp turn you weren't prepared for. I love it though, but I really don't have too much to compare to.

Yeah. The front suspension on the Yamahas needs an overhaul, which I think the RX-1 provides, but I have never had the chance to ride an RX-1 to see if they handle better.

Ive got a 2002 Yamaha vmax 600 triple, I love the suspension on it. But the only thing I have to compare it to is an old 96 vmax 600 which felt horrible riding. Sometimes I feel a thud right by my feet, is that the result of not having an overhaul on the front suspension?

I drive an ZR600, but I've driven my buddy's new Viper and I must say I just Love that engine. Great fit and finish and I like the styling, but when the trail get tight and rough I can leave him with the ZR easy.

i have a 2002 sx viper er, 2002 v-max 600, and an rx-1 special edition.. all my sleds have 168 studs.. my viper has a bender racing silencer, and a fitch feul catalyst.. i absolutly LOVE my viper, ive raced and beaten an f5, pro x 600, rev 600, sxr 600 with pipes, pro x 700, mxz 700, pro x 800, and i gave an rx-1 a good run.. i wish everyone could beleive me when i tell them that ive beaten all these sleds but the rx-1.. the pro x 800 and 700 was very close but i got them by a sled length.. the pro x 600 wasnt a problem to beat, my buddy on his xc sp 600 beat the rev and i beat them both.. all these races were from a dead stop to a little longer than a quarter mile.. i also beat my cousins 1999 xc sp with a clutch kit in it.. this sled is no joke it is all out FAST! forget the magazines! this thing is for real.. i hate the people that say ohh i beat this guy and that guy but iam dead serious.. iam not lieing.. but thats for the power! for the suspension> i wouldnt mind an update although the 2003 and 2004 vipers are ditch bangers for sure, yamaha will get alot more sales this winter because of the suspension. i will admit that the rx-1 suspension needs serious tunning because this thing cant be used for jumps and what not.. for the lake though this thing screws!!!!!! the v-max needs a boost in performance, i absolutly smoke it with my viper but i also have 35 more hp.. buts thats the deal and the truth with my sleds! good luck

I have a 2002 mxz 700 adrenaline and lined up for a lake run about a 1/4 mile with a 2002 viper, 2001 mxz 800 , 1998 polaris xc700, 2000 polaris 700xcsp, and a 1999 doo formula 670.
the mxz 800 and my 700 were even at the front, no one else was close.
All sleds were stock. I rode the viper and the motor is smooth and fast but the suspension and acceleration are no where near my mxz700.

dude that SX-r is an awesome sled.
sure its not the fastest but the suspension is great if set up properly. it corners flatter then just about anything out there...and it rides pretty good sled or fast.
i had a 98 zr 600 last and this sled is 10x better.
MXz's are ok but i dont think there half the sled the SXr is.
reliability is awesome, they feel so light in my opinion, fit and finish is top notch, controls are awesome, gauges nice, awesome looking sled...etc
the regular sx's dont have half the suspension the SX-r's did.
you cant go wrong with a yammie.
check out my site for more info on the SX-r line.

Anyone have any electrical problems with an 02 viper? Specifically, the kill switch? A friend told me they can go bad and I think one might have yesterday.
Is it easy to bypass the kill switch?

i rode a yamaha last winter, (i think it was a sx600 with a srx 700 engine, and bender pipes, not sure what else.) and thought it rode like absolute crap. ive had shits with better suspension. as soon as we got in the rough stuff, there was no problem leaving it in the dust, on my bald tracked unstudded 99 supersport.
