Im looking at getting my very first sled. Ive never owned one, and havent ridden in about 15yrs. The sled im lookin at is 1997 VMAX 600 XTC it has elec. start. and reverse has 3000 miles. they would take $2000. Could any of you guys give me any info on these. are they pretty relaiable?

That is a great sled and low mileage, reverse, and electric start are all great extras! But, the price is still about $300-500 high, so if it can be dropped to that then go for it!

I've seen sleds 2 years newer in better condition for less. I'd pay 1500...maybe 1600 at the most if I was feeling generous. It is a sweet ride though.

I will be listing a sled for sale for a friend soon.
Late 90's Ski Doo Grand Touring 583 w/R.A.V.E.
All the goodies, just over 600 miles on it, stored inside always and well maintained.
He's only asking $1000.
I will have pictures of it soon.

its through a dealership, thats probally why the price is high. Ive been looking on craigslist, seems like the sleds are newer, but almost all have double the milage in my price range.

yup thats what usually happens. older sleds with low miles go for the same price as new sleds with high mileage. Find a good middle with not too high mileage and not too old and abused.

It also depends on the model, some were much more reliable than others. For instance, the 583 engines will go forever!

Same as a Fuji 488 (500) liquid cooled engine used in the Polaris sleds.Thats one of the most bullet proof motors ever made. They used the up ill a couple years ago since like 1988 or somethin.

pretty much any yamaha is going to be reliable but a triple 600 is great. has lots of power and doesnt suck too much more gas the a twin. get new carbs maybe even plastic skis. check your track and studs and go from there.
offer him 1500 and see what happens. the guy i got my ac was askin 1500 and came right out and said he would take 800 so i took it. you never know how generous people are.
