Starting Issue (88 Enticer)

I just bought my first snowmobile, a 1988 Yamaha Enticer 340. It starts fine when the motor is "cold" and will run for about 2 minutes then cut out. I cant start it again after that. I dont know if its the gas (old, water in it, etc) the sparks plugs need replacing? ? ? ? Any help will be appreciated.

Always start with fresh gas and new plugs to rule that out.
You will probably have to clean the carb too.

Well nothing seems to work. I took off the carb and cleaned it out. Put new spark plugs and gas in. The plugs are getting gas (they are wet after i turn it over a couple times). But now it will not start at all. . . . I have no idea what the issue is.

Engine is now flooded.
Take plugs out and pull it over with throttle wide open until no mist comes out of the plug holes, insert plugs and try again.

Takes quite a while to get a sled to start after sitting.

Hang on I missed that you said you cleaned the carbs, make sure you put the floats back in the right way. I had mine in the wrong way once and I had no idea what the problem was... I pulled for hours

Even if it's not flooded and everythings back together the way it should be it will still take a while. The fuel takes a while to get back in the carbs. One more thing: if you cleaned the pilot air jet, make sure you put the screws back in with the same amount of turns.

Well I figured out the problem. In my initial attempt to get it started after cleaning the carb i adjusted all the components to every extent. Pilot Jet wide open, choke open all the way, closed all the way. . . .etc. I had adjusted the element on the side of the carb which opens the throtle to a set position prior to starting or using the choke (for some reason this piece has electronics coming out of it and a little switch). My adjustments unscrewed this piece completely so it couldnt work even if it wanted to. So now it starts first pull. I just need some minor adjustments to the carb to keep it idling. Thanks for all the help.

Figured something like that would be the problem... always makes you feel kinda stupid when you forget small things like resetting adjustments. Believe me... I know
