1989 Yamaha Phazer Fuel Shutoff Valve

Hi,

Can someone please tell me which position the fuel shut-off valve needs to be in on a 1989 Yamaha Phazer to start the sled?

Does it need to be pushed away from me, or pulled towards me?

Am having trouble starting it up- and knowing if it's actually getting fuel or not will be a tremendous help.

Also- when should I use the valve to shut-off the fuel? After everytime I ride it? Only when storing for summer? Why would you want to shut the fuel off (what purpose does it serve) ?

Thanks a lot.

It should be towards you. When you pull the carbs to clean them or replace lines you should use it to shut it off. They must be 100% one way or the other. Make sure the carbs are clean before fooling around with everything else.

You've been a tremendous help- thank you. I've been out there pulling the cord with the ignition in the off posistion, the fuel shut off, and the starter/primer going the wrong way too. Infuriating to say the least
