Seals and Gaskets

I realize getting the proper gaskets and seals is the best option, but as an owner of an older machine (89 ovation) I was wondering if there is a product out there like a caulk you could use as a sealer or gasket.
ie. when you clean the carb of an old ovation they recommend using a new seal...

Thanks

Personally, I wouldn't risk leaning out the engine for the cost of a $2 gasket...
