just picked up an 87 exciter 570 l/c for free. Couple questions??

I just picked this up. GOt it for free from a friend of a friend. Guy bought a new sled and didnt wanna fix this up. When i recieved the sled it was in ok condition. The carbs were removed and the guy tried to clean them or whatnot. He reinstalled them but the lines are mismatched and some arent even connected.
IM very mechanically inclined, been working on cars for 7 years but snowmobile engines and such are new to me.
My issue is, i did a compression test last night and one cylinder had 100psi and the other had like 25 psi. So its def going to need rings at least. Should i just remove both cylinders and replace both cylinders while i have it all apart? SHould i just sleeve them or have them bored bigger with bigger pistons? I def dont wanna be spending lots of money on this sled. ANy info would be greatly appreciated, thanks

jeff

Proper compression test is with both plugs out and Throttle wide open.

You can not tell exactly what you will need until you get the engine apart. You may be lucky and only need new rings.
To test if you need new rings, after the initial compression test, put a couple of oz of oil into the low cyl. Roll the engine over slowly and the do compression test again. If the compression comes up, it is rings. If not, it is a bad piston or scored cylinder.

rj-thanks for the quick response. I did the compression test with both spark plugs out. One cylinder was 100, the other was low at 25. I did do a wet test. I put a little oil in both cylinders. BOth cylinders went went up 25 psi.
I didnt put the throttle wide open though, i will try that tonight to get better numbers.

Unless you can find cheap sleeves on Ebay, it's usually cheaper to take 10 thou off your sleeves and buy a top end kit that's 10 thou over. But you can usually buy a set of rings for $10 off Dennis Kirk, so it might be worth it to just buy a set or standard rings assuming your sleeve bore isn't out of balance top to bottom.
