Need Help!-'78 Ex 440 Exciter Carb problem

I have a 1978 Yamaha Ex 440 that I just purchased to tinker with and get running to take my kids around the yard. I am mechanically inclined but I cannot figure out how to get the broken end of the choke cable out of the Keihin carb. It is broken off just above the end that is in the brass piece inside the carb. I am afraid to break it but I tried turning it with a screw driver and it is not moving. I am assuming that it does come out?

I do not have a manual for it and need some help before I do damage to it.

Thanks!!

Brian

Try needle nose pliers.

I did try them but no success. The cable broke just at the point that it connects to the little ball at the end. Does that brass piece unscrew or just pull out?

Also, do you know where I can find a operators/maintenance manual for the '78 440 Exciter? That is without paying a small fortune for one? I basically need to know how the set up the carb to run. The needles I assume are run in all the way and backed out a certain amount or just by feel when it is running?

Thanks for the help! I really appreciate it! My kids are dying to hear it run and I do not want to disappoint them.

Thanks XC, I did see some on Ebay but they were about $50 bucks. I only paid $100. for the sled so the $50 is tough to swallow. lol

The price of the manual will more than repay you on many of the repairs that will be needed over the life of the sled.

It should just pull out. If not, use a small drill and drill it enough (1/4") to get a screw or small easy out into it for something to hang onto.
