I can take some close up pics, if anyone is interested.
Here is a pic of the sled with the new skis before I installed the drop brackets.

Hi Glideman88, I absolutly love what you've done with your sled. It looks very tastfully modded, I'm very interested in what you did to make the skis work.. is it possible to mount dual carbide Camoplast plastic skis on a 96 Vmax? (excuse my ignorance I'm a newbe) any other modds you've done?
Thanks
-Justin

Thanks for the compliment. My 12 year old son will like to hear that, because I officially gave it to him this week. I added an old Wildcat 650 to the stable last weekend.
The sled was used for grass drag racing for the past few years and I bought it dirt-cheap at an auction. It needed new skis, a seat and a lot of cosmetic work. The previous owner claimed on the auction sheet that it has fresh Wiseco pistons, aftermaket performance reeds and the carbs have also been slightly modded. Being that it has run perfectly since I got it, I haven't torn the engine apart to prove him wrong.
I'm not too familiar with the plastic skis, but I'm sure someone out there offers a mounting kit for the VMax's
The ski mount on my '94 rests a lot deeper into the ski than a '97 model does. So, in order to use the original pivot holes, I basically had to cut out the center platform of the "new" ski and re-weld it a little more than an inch lower between the side braces. Then, I tacked in a .25" solid rod across the front and rear of the platform to hold the rubber bumper in place.
The new ski's are also a little narrower, so I used one of the original pivot bolt spacers on one side and a thinner spacer on the other side of the mount.
I tried to get a decent close up pic of the ski mount but unless you see it in person, it's really hard to make out....please pardon this Season's rust that shows up in these pics! I'm planning to get the ski's powder-coated before next Winter.

Wow! that sounds like one mean machine, I'm sure you're son will have a blast riding it! and thanks for the pics they are definetly helpfull.
I was doing some more searching and came across this link for mounting rx-1 plastic skis, also looks like a worth while mod I might look into.
Adding RX-1 skis to 94-96 Vmax (pogo)
Thanks again

Nice...
I did the 3" mod today, and I love the looks....cant wait to try it out....got a while for that now though.
Used 3/16 Aluminum plate and it slid up nicely.
Thanks for the info and the post.

Looking at your pictures, I would recommend that you put the wider spacer on the outboard side next time for a little wider stance and stability.

no end plates!?
I have a '96 long track (it may be a '95, still confused between mfg and model year) and I got the aluminum plates and was ready to go on this mod but started looking and mine doesn't have the axle end plates that you show. Looks like the axle is just bolted directly to the tunnel. I thought maybe somebody took them off but there are no mounting holes or anything indicating that it was made with the end plates Any opinions on whether I can do the same mod and just bolt the axle directly to the extender plates (I got 1/4" aluminum) with appropriate spacers????

hey did you have to cut the axle smaller to get it to fit because the plates were thicker or did it just fit ?
