1995 yamaha phazer 2 problems

ok hey guys im new to the whole sledding world and such and i bought a 95 phazer 2 for 1000.00 in great shape with the 480 fan but it has some problems 1.the spedo broke while i was riding, and 2. the lights i put in keep burning out and then it blows my tailight it only does this when i give it full throttle anyone know why? i dont think its the voltage regulator as it seems fine and also it is the right light for the sled and im sorta at a deadlock i cantride at night with no lights so im puzzled.also can someone tell me the number for the battery it needs the local parts shop dont know and we aint got a yamaha dealer here my left shock is more compressed then the right can someone tell me if it is normal or if i need to do some work to it i know nothing lol any advice would be greatly helpfull around ere its always dark form 3:30 and i cant go out till its fixed

Go here for the speedo and follow smallengineguy's recomendations, I did and it worked fantastic for me, I think this is the best post on here. Start at the instrument cluster and work backwards to the bearings. http://www.snowmobileforum.com/engin...-tos-here.html
I suggest going to a mechanic for the voltage thing, but it does sound like the voltage regulator isn't working properly. It could be a bad wire though so check through all your wiring.
As for your shocks ,ost people suggest to have them rebuilt yearly or every 2 years at least. Too put $400 bucks into your sled still keeps it a bargain and a safe one I think.

Your lights blowing is a sure sign of faulty voltage regulator.

Did you figure out if your lights blowing was the voltage regulator? I just bought a 91 phazer II and the light was always really dim and i replaced it with a very good bulb that the high beam blew in 5 minutes and the low beam blew in about 20 minutes of riding.

Does anyone know if it's possible to test your regulator or if my dealer can verify if mine is bad?

Also, i bought the brightest light i could find at Autozone, would this be a problem or should the sled be able to handle it? The bulb i got was a phillips that was 50% brighter, 40% wider throw, etc.... Could it be too much for the sled?
