Well just got the title and it is a 1992.

Still a good deal at $500 with 600 miles?

Looked on ebay .... saw no manual.

Check daily, they'll start popping up more as winter nears.

By hand it will start right up.

Ran the sled for 1/2 hour the other day to get the battery charged.
Has electric start but clicks when turning the start key after running it for 1/2 hour.

Is there a way to check the electric start without going out and getting a new battery?

This is my first fancy sled with electric start.

Unless you were running the engine at 2500+RPM for that 1/2 hour, the battery got little or no charge. Put a volt meter on the batt poles as the engine is running & you'll be able to see how the voltage values vary with RPM. Try using an external charger to get a full charge on it. If that doesn't work, a new batt may be in order......those small ones last only 3-4 seasons at best.

When my battery has been dead on my 92 Polaris EFI Sled, I've backed my rider up to it and with the rider off, jump started it. Granted I do not have a starter, but then you would have a good battery to test it with.

Where do I get a battery?

WALMART for $30 ??? Do they have one?

Or do I go mail order for $70?

How do I find out what battery to use?

Battery from Walmart works. I just matched the size that is in there or a size of the battery box. My Walmart battery works great, but will loose enough of a charge for the EFI not to work after a month+ of sitting.

So just remove mine and match it up with a Walmart? Dimension ... or do I concern myself with CCA?

The only other way is mail order. I think the nearest Yamaha dealer is 375 miles.

I just picked up a battery in simular size for snowmobiles. Batteries plus may have them also for cheap, as would Mills Fleet Farm, etc. $70.00 is insane! Haah!

No offense, but you get what you pay for. Walmart batteries will be replaced every year. If you really like the machine, suck it up and get a Yuasa or equivalent brand. They will last you 4 to 5 years at least, and you won't have to jump start it after a month.

Walmart is down the street and physically match up.

Yuasa would have to be mail order.

Would a battery be listed in a parts catalog for a 1992 Yamaha 500 GT cause I only find newer sleds?

I should say, my sled does not get ran or the battery charged except for the winter. I will start it long enough to get it warm, but that is about it. That is not enough time to charge the battery, but yes, it is a cheaper battery and I never had issues with it except for the very long periods of sitting.

The ONLY reason I mention Walmart is they are near.

A yamaha sled dealer is 300 miles away.

So searching the web I come up with this part number.

At Walmart here a battery is $45 out the door

Wal Mart does carry good batteries, I still have the same one in after 3 years on mine.

A $30.00 investment in a trickle charger will extend the life of any battery. Use it on my bike and sled...no worries
