Thumb warmer burned out

The thumb warmer on my 90 exciter was not working when I bought the sled in the fall. Upon inspection I found that the heating element / pad was burned out, it had even melted the plastic on the throttle lever. Not giving it much thought, I bought a new one and installed it a few weeks ago. The new one didnt seem to put out much heat at all, I figured it was due to the thickness of the plastic throttle lever and that it just didnt heat up enough to penetrate through. Then last weekend it suddenly heated up to the point that I couldent even touch it (for a short period of time) then it went cold again.
I inspected the element and just like the first one it had burned out and had melted the throttle handle again. Has this happened to anyone else?
P.S. I used the same power supply wire for the heated grips and they work well.

I have not had any issues with the thumb warmer on my 90 exciter. It does get hot and typically I cannot leave it on very long.

Thanks for the reply. I am going live without it for now. If I cant identify the cause of the elements burning out repeatedly Im not going to waste my money buying another one. For the few times this season that my thumb got cold I used those disposable mini heat pads that get warm when you open the pack.
