MM 700 Oil Consumption.

Went for a 100 mile ride yesterday, quite a bit farther than what I usually do in one day and burnt well over 2 quarts of synthetic oil. Low oil warning light came on. Used probably about 7 to 9 US gallons of fuel. Does this sound like a normal amount of oil to consume in that distance? To me that seems like alot of oil but I'm not really a Gearhead. Pulled the plugs and they are a bit black but not fouled. Sled seems to be running great. Any idea.

yeah that sound like way too much oil being used. it should be 50:1 so 2 quarts should last 25 gallons.

Yeah that does sound like an awful lot. My 97 Ultra SPX burnt a lot of oil but near the end of its time with me the exhaust had a leak and the bottom gasket was gone so it used to spit an awful lot of oil into the bottom of the belly pan. Any of those problems with the MMAX? If not get it in and get it looked at cause that synthetic ain't cheap.

Thanks for the quick feedback.
Any idea what could cause such high consumption?

Doesn't appear to be any external leaks. No Crap it's not cheap! I'm on my 5th jug this season at $40 per jug

i read on this forum that when the oil pump fails it pumps oil like its WOT as a safety feature to protect the motor. that could be it or your oil cable could be out of adjustment.

Check the cable going to the pump to make sure it isn't hanging open due to frays, kinks, etc.

Thanks alot guys for the advice. I figured out that the sled used almost 3 liters of oil to 28 liters of fuel to go 100 miles. A ratio of about 10 to 1.
Took it to my sled tech and he adjusted the oil pump cable. Haven't been out yet to test it but hopefully that's all it was.
Cheers and thanks again.
