in-line spark tester

Ok, what is this and how much do they cost? Advanced auto carries something called in-line spark tester, but I don't see how this thing could possibly give me any type reading, for $5 dollars. For that price, I can hold on to the wire and see if my hair stands on end.
I have a '80 340 enticer and simply need to ck I'm getting a good power output. This has a CDI mag. system.

Let me knows what I need, if it's cheap. I like to troubleshoot and don't have the spec's on any of the electrical parts like ohms reading. I have a fluke.
Thx, Greg

NAPA has them for $6.95. It has a wire on each end and a clear tube with a neon lamp in the middle. I use mine ALL the time. Good to keep in your toolbox for the mowers, etc. too!
