2008 Apex Runners

A friend of mine just baught a 2008 Apex. he has about 450 miles on it and already going on his third set of runners. He got 350 on the original set and 100 miles on the second set. most of the riding has been on powder and ice maybe 5 miles total of pavement pounding. Any ideas?

install ice scratchers to provide some lubrication for the sliders.

I have an 06 Apex I bought in Feb when I blew up my Wildcat, 1000 miles of trail, 10 miles of ice (Killarney - Little Current) I destroyed the third wheel at the back, burnt the two rear inner idler wheels and both sliders... This summer I will be installing the rear cooler to avoid overheating on the ice ($60CAD), the fourth wheel kit for the rear axle ($40CAD), and the front idler wheel adapter kit ($120CAD) and ice scratchers. These tracks really heat up!
