'86 excel III won't start

Need some help. My Yamaha excel 3 worked last year. I put stabil in the fuel, but won't start this year. I put in a new battery and plugs, reset gap and have spark, but nothing pops. Pulled plugs and they were wet, so it seems to be getting gas. I noticed that the carb has 2 wires on it that are hanging free. Does anyone know if they need to connect to something? I only see one possible wire underneath that it may go to, not two. Any help would be appreciated!

Sounds like your TORS (throttle over ride system) is disconnected. You can either hook the two ends of the wires together that lead up towards the handle bar, or plug them into the wires on the carb. It shouldnt matter whether they are disconnected or not to start it. It will affect it from moving though once its running. Did you put a little pre-mix gas in the spark plug holes and choke it to try to start it? Sometimes it takes a little gas to create the vacuum to get the fuel flowing.

Thanks, I'll give that a try when I head up north (hopefully next weekend) to where the sled is kept at my mom's house. I appreciate the advice, since last time up I spent a day with no success trying to get it going. I hope I can figure out which wires to connect up. I can only remember seeing one that could possibly connect to the carb (not 2). I did connect that one to the carb (not knowing whether it should go there) but it made no difference, which makes sense from what you said. I'll keep looking, and will try the gas trick.
