Is the casing lax, or is the cable that goes to the choke lever lax? What motor do you have? Without more info, i would suspect that it is in the open position. Is it hard to start when its cold, or does it run like its flooding out once its warm? You could take the air box off to see if its open or closed. You may want to go through the carb to clean and reset the jets. That might get your fuel consumption back to original specs.

89 excell

i dont know how to tell wich motor i have the cable goes to the front of the carb near the motor the cable is relaxed it is a small cylander that is in the carb i will look at it tomorrow the dash i gues you would say calls it a starter knob not a choke but i beleive it is the same thing it flooded so badly it has to sit overnight when it is cold it starts right up i dont even touch that cable idelks at 3000 rpms then bogs out to a stall i did open the carb up and found that the float was not properlay installe dit was sitting in the bowl along with that little pin thing i put it together correctly anmd when it is not fludded i will try to restart it thank you for responding i am great with small engines like briggs and tercumsan but this is all new to me the carb seems very simalar though after i do more checking tomorrow i will let you know i wil;l repost under the same title being 89 excell III thanks again

ok i took the air box off to see ther isa no butterlyvalve.it seems to me this is like a primer.when i was pulling and relealing the cable it seemed like the fuel was being pumped all off a sudden the carb was squirting gas when i did that.the cylinders are still full of fuel and i have not tried to fire it yet today.the sled sat overnight and still too much fuel. how do i get the fuel out of the cylendirs so i can attempt to start it again.still have no clue what motor it is not sure how to tell.

pull the plugs, leave the ignition off and pull it over until no more comes out the plug holes.
