Yamaha Phazer no fuel

I have a 1984 Yamaha 480 Phazer that I got for nothing from a guy that did not want it. Here is the problem. It will not pull fuel fronm the tank at all. I had it running yesterday but it was smokimg a little so I figure it just needed to clear itself out from sitting a while. Then all of the sudden it just stopped pulling fuel. I checked to make sure the fuel line was not plugged and it was not. I know it works off the engine via a pulse line and that appears okay also I have fresh gas in it ,new plugs and a new fuel pump in it. I do not know where else to look. Any help you guys can give is appreciatted as we just got another 4 inches of snow last night and I want to ride it.
Thanks,
Jimsace

I clened the carbs when i put the fuel pump in. I figured the jets where plugged. But when I put it all back together it still will not pull fuel.
Thanks for the reply.

Pull the gas line off the carb to see if you have good pressure from the fuel pump. It should push a good stream when pulling it over. If you don't have good flow, check to make sure you have pressure coming from the exhaust.

Just to let you know I got it running today. Turns out it was sucking air at the fuel pump due to a bad fuel line. Now that it runs it smokes alot and will not hold an idle under 2000 rpm. The smoke is a grayish color.Do I just need to run it and see if it clears up or is there something else.
Thanks,
Jimsace

How old is the fuel in it? You might just need to run it.

I just put the gas in it about 2 weeks ago. I will give a ride later and see how it goes.
Thanks,
Jimsace

okay. i took it for a ride around today and seems to ride okay.It did bog and stall a few times in the deeper snow but started right back up. It also seems that when I turn the handlebars to a certain point to the right it cuts out. It only does this in one place. If I turn it back right away it runs okay. What could it be? A bad wire to the bars?.
Thanks,
Jims ace

Even a break of worn through and it comes in contact with metal when you turn.
