250cc Bravo Performance

I have a mid-80s Bravo single cylinder 250cc. It goes about 42mph. It does bog sometimes and sputter from time to time. However, it's been doing this for years and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it.

Is there a way I could improve the performance? Would a better plug help out?

A new plug wont make it go any faster. The bog and sputter could be caused by a number of things. Has the carb ever been removed, properly cleaned and set up?
Check to make sure the clutches / pulleys are working properly as well. Never owned a Bravo but have ridden a few and I dont think you will make any significant top end speed gain even with it running 100%. Where did you clock it at 42 MPH and what were the conditions? I just sold a 1985 Ski Doo Tundra 250cc which is Ski Doo's equivalent (though not as good in my opinion) to the Bravo. I might have been able to reach 42 mph on hard packed snow and a long run but soon as I hit a little bit of loose snow it would lose at least 10 mph.

Thanks for the reply. I'll get 42mph on the road. Hard packed snow and pretty level. On the fluffy stuff it's much slower. It's pretty weak but it runs and gets me around the trails. The only bad part is if I'm riding with other guys who have faster sleds. I'm always trailing behind .

I have two young kids now so I never ride with friends anymore. We got a two-up sled this year so my wife and I can each take a kid to putz around the trails. They love it.

They are an excellent sled for kids.
I would rather spend 1000 bucks on a good used Bravo then more than twice as much for one of those miniature "Kitty Kat" style sleds. They are after all a "real" snowmobile that you wont out grow.
I wanted a Bravo, the Tundra I ended up with was a compromise to say the least.
Enjoy!

We got the Bravo for either $600 or $800 when it was about 10 years old. A good deal for sure. The kids will ride with us until they're old enough to ride on their own. If the Bravo scoots my 220lb body around, it will surely suffice for an 8 or 10 year old. We just got an AC Pantera 500cc for $400. It's a 1980 and in mint condition. Can't wait to get on them.

Is it a Bravo Long track or short track? I have a bravo long track, and it gets a top speed of 80 km/h, or about 50mph. I recently had the motor redone, and gained about 10 Km/h from that.

Do a compression test, the old girl likly needs a new set of rings! Then go threw the clutches and a new belt too! 45 is about all you'll likly get! The other thing to look at is the intake, there is (on the 250 Enticer anyway) an angled alum block that has a tendency to crack off one bolt ear causing a lean condition!
