84 srv help

Picked up an 84 SRV from a friend. It had been sitting for a year, and ran like crap when I got it. I pulled the carb and cleaned it an it is running good, put in new plugs too. Problem is (before and after I pulled the carb it did this), when it sits for a while after riding, the cylinders fill up with gas. Any ideas what is causing this. I can get it going after pulling the plugs and letting the gas drain off and evaporate but its a pain and there is obviously a problem.

Thanks in advance

Sounds like the float in the carb is stuck open.

thanks

yes, that was kind of what I was thinking, when I had it apart, it seemed ok, but perhaps it is out of adjustment. Will take it apart again and see what is up.
