90 Exciter hard to start when cold

Been having a hard time starting my 90 Exciter after it has sat for a few days. using the electric start it will crank for 30 seconds or more before it eventually starts. once it's going you can turn it off and it will start up again very easily.
I suspect that the fuel in the lines is leaking down and it takes lots of cranking to re prime it's self??
I have never been in the habit of turning the fuel cock off when the machine is not in use... should I?
If my theory about the fuel leaking down is correct would the (closed) fuel cock prevent this?
Any ideas?

Sometimes sleds are just slow to start... I know with my Bro's and Gf's Polaris, it takes a good 10 pulls but from there out, 1 or 2. My Ski-Doo is usually 1 pull but you have to let it idle for a few minutes or if you hit the gas it dies. But once it is warm, it's like a bat out of hello.

Thanks for the reply.
This is my first Yamaha and all of my previous sleds had primers so I wasnt sure what to expect with the enrichener. 30 seconds of cranking is taking it's toll on my battery, not to mention the starter. I cant believe that this is normal for the sled.

I had an 89 Exciter that was brutal to start when cold. I used to have to pull the plugs and heat them up to get the thing going but started great after that. Never really figured out what was causing it

my polaris 600 trip is a bear to start when cold. Ive found a heat gun on the fuel pump (even though it was just rebuilt) helps to get it going a bit quicker.

I solved my same problem

I have a 91 exciter and it suffered the same problem. I found that the T.O.R.S. switch on the throttle was out of adjustment. It would alternatly activate and deactivate the ignition. Basically I pulled on the darn thing until it decided to disengauge and then we were off. It also would screw up during riding as well. The fix is to bypass the T.O.R.S. or get it adjusted correctly.
