1999 Vmax 700 Triple will not idle.

Help.

I just bought a used 1999 Vmax SX 700 triple (non-power valve). Nice sled, but the original owner did not take care of the fuel system. It must have sat for a year or two, and the carbs were all "gummed up". I spent days throughly cleaning the bowls, main jets and idle jets. I did not remove the needle and seat, as they seemed to be working correctly. Also I did not remove the pilot air screw and clean the passage out.

Here is the problem. The machine runs like a rock star during 1/4 throttle through full throttle, but when you slow to a stop sign the machine bogs and stalls. Then you must half choke it to get it started. After several stalls, I learned to to turn the choke half on at stops, and at least the machine will idle.

Do I have a pilot air screw passage that is blocked or is something in the choke sticking and causing a problem.

HELP - NEED TO RIDE THIS WEEKEND. THE SNOW IN UPPER MICHIGAN IS PERFECT!!!!!

All three plugs look great. The black carbon is about 1/4 of the way up the ground, and the electrode has a nice brownish hue. It seems like it is getting no fuel at idle.

Take the carbs off and give them a through cleaning by dipping them and blowing out all the passages. Chase the idle passage with a piece of monofiliment line to ensure that it is clear.
