Radiator Caps Yamaha?

I am having an overheating problem on my 92 v-max.

I would like to try a new cap. Will an automotive one work?

Or are they specialized?

Thanks for the help.

Just check the lbs rating! Are you getting bubles? if so likely a blown head gasket!

Not sure were to look for bubbles...but here is what I have done.

Replaced the thermostat and cap.

Purged the heat exchanges in the back under the seat.

I notice the resivior tank level never changes. I thought as the coolant get hot, it raises or lowers the coolant in the resivior.????

Today I will try to purge air again. And also try to find the bolt at the water pump and see if any air is in there.

Please advise....thanks

Raise the front of the sled as high as possible with the engine warm and running with out the cap. Get a tester and make sure it's a 50/50 mix!! With the coolant toped off at the cadiator cap watch for bubbles? Don't worry about the resivor.
