bitter weather 80' yamaha ss440 spitting gas

I just bought this 1980 ss440. Ran great the first day I had it. Then on the last rip through the field it died on me. Brought it home let it sit in the bitter garage for a day or two. Went to start it yesterday. Started dumping gas onto floor from exaust pipe on every pull. pulled the carb off because someone said the float could be frozen. Let carb warm up in the house and everything appears to look great. Any suggestions to get this bad boy started again. Thanks

Take the plugs out and crank it over until it clears all the fuel from the base of the engine. Put the plugs in and go.
The float was probably stuck too high up and it allowed the fuel to siphon out of the tank and fill the base of the engine .
