A budy just bought a new yamaha 4 stroke and was told that it must warm up first. Not sure if the light goes on but was told that the the machine limits the rpms until its warm. Sounds like this is how it should operate

i dont think it rev limits but it might ive never really tried to take off, also when its really cold, like when it was 0 this morning, the dash doesnt come on at all (no tact or speedo) until it warms up a little

My 04 Warrior does the same. You're not supposed to move the sled until the light goes out. It's indicating the motor oil is not warm enough.
