POS design

Just found out for sure why my Vmax 500 blew up.A pick started to rip out(but was holding on still) and beat a hole in the front heat exchanger. Yamaha doesn't sell the heat exchanger, only the entire bulkhead at $800.00 and it happens to be on backorder. Thank you Yamaha!!!!!!!!!!

That is the route I am going also.I am luck enough to have an excellent aluminum welder very close and he has done a handfull already this year.It is just a pain to get to it,you have to remove the drive axle GRRRRRRR.

Haven't tried that yet,I didn't want to pull the motor and find out It still is a no go.I don't have a clutch puller for it yet either so I would have to order one of those now also before I could pull it.

The part number for the heat exchanger only is 8CR-12440-02-00, sells for about $190. I can sell it to you for $165 plus actual shipping to Ohio. I am a dealer in Michigan.

Thank you for the part number,I sent it to get it welded or I would just buy it at that price. Was that a service bullitin? I used to be a Yamaha tech and they weren't available for the first 3 years seperate from the bulk head. I was just wondering if Yamaha sent a bullitin about it.Also do the front protectors from yamaha make this a non issue when installed,or can the pics still take out the front heat exchanger?

Bulletin number S99-003 dated 2-02-99. Protectors won't help you if a stud is tearing out and gets flung into the heat exchanger.
