1998 vmax 500 went boom

What are the odds the cylinders are still good? I havent pulled them yet but it overheated,it was so bad you couldn't touch the plugs(hot) it only turs about 1/2 a revolution and then its sticks.I don't really know what happened because my 14 year old son was riding it,but I do know it was having a problem about 45 minuts before it went. The primary clutch wouldn't engage till very high rpm so I think it was revving pretty hard when he was riding it,you think this is why it overheated? What in the primary went bad to make it rev like that? It was doing it earlier and got worse as the night went on.It seemed to only be right at full speed. I used to work at Yami dealership but never seen that problem with a clutch, also never seen a v max 500 or 600 seize up???? WTF I'm the lucky one I guess!!!

Will it only turn 1/2 way back and forth easy? You could have broken a rod! Sorry Dude that aint good!
But the good news is You're right those are normaly very dependable sleds! So getting a complete engine from salvage shouldn't be too bad! And would be a good time to upgrade to a 600!!!
There are a lot of Salvage places and you could (if you want to wait) go to Hay Days or other swap meets.

I don't think the rod broke because it turns 1/2 way then you feel it starting to get tight and stick,if you force it it will keep turning but gets tighter and tighter. My guess is theres some piston melted to the cylinder wall.I need to pull it apart but have work and school so its gonna be a few days.

The crank is good,it overheated bigtime, melted the plastic stuffers in the reed cage and the sensor on top of the head it was so hot. It had antifreeze in the plastic bottle but nothing in the cylinders. I just bought it and checked the bottle, when I seen it had antifreeze I assumed it was good to go OOPS! It had 3.8k on it. I am going to get it sleeved to stock bore and then at least it can be bored if it blows up again.I guess it is time to pressure test the cooling system to find out where the antifreeze went.Anyone think sleevivng is a bad idea?

What was the cause of your seizing?
