help with vmax 600

i have a 1994 vmax 600.. the first year i had it it ran mint... anyways the next year it didnt get used much since there wasnt much snow.. anyways it developed a problem dureing these times.. when its first started itll run good.. then as it warms up it will load up and run poorley sometimes fowling the left plug (its a twin) i replace boots and plugs really cleaned the carbs every jet and needle was removed and poked with cleaners and blown out with compressed air.. (this helped however ) the compression is low 100 psi in both cylinders.. i guess what im asking is at this point with this problem could it possibly be center seal.. it runs ok in low to mid range and sometimes it can clear out in top end but not for long and itll dog back out as soon as the clutches swap to high speed.. (misses under load) im going to purches a total seal/gasket set and new rings should i replace the coil also? anything else i should look for??

thanks in advance

It might be a good idea to change the coil while your at it. Why not. Also check your T.O.R.S. See if that is working properly. How many miles do you have on it?

tors as far as i can tell is disconnected.. there is some wires on the carbs that are disconnected.. but i only assume that... i believe it has about 4000 miles.. when i do start it the tors light blinks a couple of times then shuts off... does it hook in other places that i should check??

You may not want to hear this but it sounds like a hanging choke! When you did the compresion test did you hold the gas wide open?

no i didnt try it with the gas wide open... it only registered 110 psi on both cylinders when i did do the test.. i know that the pistons are stock and most of the hone marks are still in the cylinders... i dont know about the center seala friend told me if the ends arent leaking at the crank... that the center seal is probably ok still also... i dont think the choke is hung up but its possible and i cant do the test now cause i took the head off anyhow... hopefully this week ill have rings and the top end set...

When you get it back together do the compresion test again the same way and I'll bet you don't get more than 120. Then do it again wide open for a good 10 pulls and she'll be at about 135!

Remember they're cam ground pistons so you'll have a higher reading when warm. There was also a callback on those to install a thicker head gasket back in the day. It sucked...I put the stock thinner one back in, but of course, regular fuel was the issue for that callback.

With the throtle closed the cyl aren't getting enough air. You will see a big difference at WOT. If the rings are bad you can put a couple of table spoons of oil in each and retry the test, it will come up with the oil if the rings are bad!

Those would be rack style carbs? Just pull the bowl and clean all the passages and remove and clean all (2 each) jets. The rack style carbs usually don't get out of syc unless you mess with'em.If you want to check them have someone open the throtle while you watch and see if they both are at the same point just before you get WOT! If not the n remove the top covers and one will have a little nut under the screw. Losen the screw 1/2 a turn and turn the nut one way a 1/4 turn and hold it while you tighten the screw. Recheck if worse go the other way a 1/2!

125 and 138 it still seems a touch doggy at low speeds but a snap of the throttle it wakes right up.. like a bad powerband... someone did wierd stuff to the exhaust on it.. its probably that
