93 exciter sx driveline prob's/viabration

93 exciter sx driveline prob's/viabration

Hey guys just wondering if anyone could help me out! I was loading my sled (93 exciter) on a trailer, it was under high rev's, belt smoked a bit and clutch was hot. So i took it off the trailer took it for a boot and now im getting a viabration coming from the driveline. the vibration does go away when i pin it. I changed the belt with a new one, used steel wool on the clutches to remove rubber... and still the same.. any suggestions on what it could be. it worked fine untill i loaded it on the trailer. thanks

Use a straight edge and check that the sheaves are not warped.

If they are going to change all! your bearings and hyfax for 300 it might be worth it. the track bearings are hard enough to change but the jack shaft can be worse. And all the idlers too?

The only thing I can think of from loading on the trailer is did you hit or run over something? Could the drive axle be slightly bent? You could likly see that on a stand and rev, the track center might go in and out a 1/8"? Don't know but if the drive bearings are to be changed you could roll it and look, the same with the jack shaft!

Check your engine mounts, rev it and see if the engine moves a lot.

didnt hit or run over anything.... loaded very slow, I was thinking the drive axle as well... but the mechanic said it was fine. in regards to the engine mounts, i had an exaust leak at the flange so i wraped it with a fiberglass wrap and put the spings back on... after i did i was thinking that there should be some play there. motor moves a bit but nothing crazy. all this help is great... thanks

There are 3 things that turn, the primary clutch, secondary clutch/jackshaft, and the driveshaft for the track. I'd say your track driveshaft is bent. Put the back of the sled up on a stand. start it and get the track turning. Check the shaft that the secondary turns, then look under the sled and watch the track driveshaft. One of them is wobbling.

if the drive shaft is bent... what does it cost for a new one?
is it difficult to replace?

and would this be caused by loading it on a trailer?

The shaft is relatively cheap, changing it is a *****.....

Did you take the chain case apart? I had an exciter that I wish I would have? The hole case exploded! But I wonder if just one link could have broke?

Check the drive cogs for any chunks missing or any splits in them.

ok guys took it all apart.... didnt notice anything, put it back together and no viabration. now i dont know if this is normal but when on a stand spinning the track it has a ticking sound almost as if the track is rubbing somewhere. also i noticed the back of the tunnel gets hot and always steams... i thought it may be normal to melt the build up of snow, is it? thanks

Try to find out what the ticking is. The steam is normal.
