1996 Vmax 500 XT

I just picked up a 96 Vmax 500 XT with 5400 mi for $700. Seems to run great, every thing is solid and it looks great. Are there any problem areas to watch, I've heard these are very reliable. I haven't gotten to open it up yet, but even with an older belt on it, it seems to have a lot of low end pull. What kind of top speed should I get? Also does anyone know what size tank and what kind of mileage these get?

Nice! I rode 247 miles this weekend. I got up to 80 on one long, flat stretch...the sled got there very quick! It's funny you only got 85 out of the 600 but 87 out of the 500.

They are very dependable sleds. The only isue I know of is the hard steering! Take the shocks apart and oil the oring at the top of the crome sleeve. If your upper steering control doesn't have a grease fitting put one on the back side and get some low temp grease.
