Yammy goes Blammy.

So I breaking trail in the fresh stuff. And started to lose power. Then it dies and siezed up. Waited bout 30 mins and it fired but wasn't happy. One of the cylinders seems to have bent a rod. This thing was rebuilt less than 400 miles ago... For the same issue? Am I missing something? Is this a comman problem? Upgrades?

93 Phazer II ST. 1500 miles on it. The motor shouldn;t take a crap twice in that time... Should it?

don't know whats wrong yammi's are usually VERY reliable, no it shouldn't but maybe rebuild didn't fix the other problem very well and its coming back to haunt you during christmas.

A friend of mine just melted a piston in his 92 yamaha. It over heated because the belt broke for the fan.

Almost sounds like you sucked some snow in somewhere.

I guess that's possible. But the intake is on the back of the bulkhead isn't it? Too much fluffy stuff? The fan works it turns with the cluch. Could this be an oiling problem? Oil injection on that side plugged up? I'm baffeld.

If it was rebuilt 400 mi ago, why was it? Maybe it was rebuilt, but the original cause was never fixed? How does the spark plug for that side look?

The plug looks like a rusty nail that got splattered with white paint... You can also see that the piston scored the side of the cylinder a bit. The other was wet and oily..

Lean on that cylinder. Replace the crank seals on the next rebuild too.

if you running an air box i think its practicaly impossible to suck in enough so to do that, cause the air comes theough the gap in between the fairing and body plasic arounf the steering colloum, through a fitting into the air box tube, then through the chambered air box. by the time that much snow got in it should of just satrved itself for air.

my best guess for bending rods is a bearing that went suddenly, mabee from some machining problems or somthing, either way find out whats doing it before putting it back together again.

also, if you happen to have any extra motor parts to get rid of or hav conections to somone with a motor or motor parts shoot me a pm, last year i put a new stator in about 5k befor i broke a skirt off the piston, broke the mathin cylynder piece to a skirt(right at the bottom, that dropps down) off, and put it out through the bottom, but what i dont get, is the fact i shut it off, it didnt die.

thanks and good luck

That side definitely leaned out. The white on the plug proves that. Replace the seals, as well as the carb boots next time.

Did it give any warning,or did it run good right up until it seized? What makes you think the rod is bent? The Phazer is probably the most reliable sled ever made, along with the old enticers(until the 4 strokers came out,but I don't have experiance with them). If its not apart yet,do a leakdown test.Sorry to hear about your luck,2 times in 400 miles plain SUCKS!!!

The thing thats making me think it's a rod, is when I turn the motor over w/o the heads on the clutch side piston doesn't come clear to the top, turn it a little more and the piston won't move, and I can push it down with my finger a good 1/2". Hmmm I guess it doesn't sound like it's bent now that I typed that.. Crank bearing? I hope it didn't mess up the crank... Otherwise I'll be partin out a sled.

I got a real short waring. I heard some sort of "ticking" almost like the sound valves make in a car engine. And by the time I said, "what the hell is that?" It was over.

Well crapola.. I was right it broke a rod, which pretty much trashed everything else... They want $1,360 USD before tax to fix it... Anyone have a spare Phazer motor they want to get rid of? Anybody know of remanufactured engines? One thing is for sure... I'm not paying that much to fix it. 1st call for Phazer II parts. Everything but the motor is fine...

Check in the used sled/classified section, I've seen a couple there. Also eBay.
