v-max 4 inquiry

i was wondering if anyone has a v-max 4 and what do you
guys think of this sled. i have heard many mixed things
about it, but would love some info on reliability, performance, and overall take on the sled. ive always thought they were kind of bad ass, and i might think of
picking one up in the future. please let me know.

What exactly do you want to know.

1992 750cc - 130hp
93-94 750cc - 140hp
95-97 800cc - 150hp

All of them make lots of power but the giggest problem is getting it to the snow due to clutching. If you are good at clutching the 750's can be made to work well. You can change the clutches if you want. The clutching was improved on the 800's,

The motors are very reliable. The 97's had long travel suspension.

I have owned two of them and currenty own a 92. They are a classic muscle sled and will give newer 800's a run for the money if the old Max is properly tuned.

They are PIGS. Heavy but fun to ride in a straight line, just don't get it stuck. They seem to be reliable in stock form. I worked for a Yam dealership for 7 years in service and there was about 4 of them regular customers had, never seen a major meltdown or problem with any of them.

I had an 89 wildcat, which I thought was fast, then purchased a 92 v-max 4..............

big difference in 3 years.

The max rides alot nicer, turns alot nicer, plus has way more top end pull. (faster) (alot faster)

I am pretty happy.

Only complaint..... heavy when moving in the garage, feels like 75lbs heavier then the wildcat.
But when riding it, I don't notice it at all. I have great control of it and can whip it around it seems like.

Ran into a problem after I replaced the head gasket.....will not start now. Taking it to a shop tomorrow, hopefully an easy fix.

the vmax 4 is a whole different animal. i compare them to a classic muscle car. they don't ride or handle the best, but they are a blast to ride when you nail the throttle. HANG ON. when set up properly that is. especially the clutching.i've found they are harder on fuel than most sleds also.

I Just bought a 95 Vmax 4 last weekend....more of an item for my out of control collection.

ive not ridden it much yet, but, tons onf grunt, real heavy to move in the shop as others have said, i wouldnt want to get off trail with it.

i hear they did have issues withthe Carb Vent Tubes and pressure under the cowl at high speed (causing it to lean out). Not sure if thats all models of vmax4 or if that was cured on later versions.
