Just bought a 1999 Yam Vmax 700 triple

New memeber guys, gals. Just got back into snowmobiling recently, been away for a decade or so. I purchaced a Vmax on fleabay for 2200. Me and a friend checked it out completly the next day and found that this sled is in great shape. 1900 miles ridden in Vt and Nh trails. Track is studded and has has some of the outside rubber pieces missing or sheared off but is good for this year. Tunnel good, skid plate excellent Hyfax good and plastic skies with 8 in carbides real good. The front suspension was tight with showing it was obviously greased lately. But underneath all the grease fittings look to have maybe never been greased, definetly not lately. The motor starts right up first pull but havenet been able to ride because there is no snow here in Ct. The battery was dead so no electric start. Wouldnt come back with charge. But i have a question about a backfire I heard 2 times right after I shut off motor. Motor was never really warmed up both times but is this backfiring thing a sign of something that needs attention. Reeds not seating? any suggestions, thanks

Let it warm up completely and see if it still does it. Could be burning off residual fuel in the pipe.

My Vmax does that all the time when I am just starting it up to move it in and out of the shop. Just builds up fuel in the pipe dont think you have anything to worry about.

If you haven't put fresh spark plugs in it, you might try that.

The first thing that I would be doing is removing and cleaning the carbs. The whole rack of carbs come off as a single unit. You need to then remove the fuel bowls and clean them out. In many cases the fuel goes bad from sitting and you get gunk in the carbs. If it plugs a jet it can burn down your motor. When you put it back together make sure everything is properly adjusted, choke, throttle cable free play, oil pump.
