We own a 1989 ish Yamaha exciter 570. It has loads of power, but the problem is steering. You can barely steer it when it is completely stopped. It is not s had to steer when you are moving, but still very tough. And is there anyway I can make it steer easier? Is there anyway you can make it less tipsy also?
Welcome!
Ok can't help so much with the tippy, but the steering is easy.
Loosen the front limiter strap on the skid.
Tighten the preload on the front track shock.
Next soften the rear track springs a little.
Then get the most carbide up front as you can!
Then get into the front end and lube the oring on the upper part of the shock tube.
I even had to add a grease Zert to mine!
Steering is hard at low speed on a snowmobile, and normally impossible when stopped. Cars are very hard to steer when stopped, but they mostly have power steering where as snowmobiles do not.
That being said, too much weight on the skis does increase the effort required to steer, and can be lessened somewhat by loosening the front limiter as kc said.
Also, if there is any damage to the parts, they may bind. Try getting the front end off the ground; the skis should move back and forth very freely.
He has a POGO! There is a lot in there to be binding!
