Looking at Yamaha.

Hello.
I am starting to really think about buying a Yamaha 4 stroke.
Can somebody tell me the comparable model to the Polaris 2002 600xcsp.
Thanks.

a vector or a nytro

The difference is the nytro is much more performance oriented, stiffer shocks, rider forward seating.

THe vector has the adjustable mono-shock and is more of a conventional seating position like a xc sp.

Even though thye are 1000 ccs they are 120 hp which is considered to be the benchmark for new 600 cc class two strokes.

Hope this helps.

I'm hearing that the 4 strokes are a b/tch to change the oil. Anyone else hear or know about this?

This is true! I guess the 3 cylinders are easier, you can at least do your own with out any troubles,so if I was you buy the 3 cylinder, get's better gas mileage too!

Changing the oil is pretty simple. The filter is a little harder. Yamaha recomends that you have the dealer do the filter do to the fact that there are some breather hoses that if they do not get hook back up right you pump all the oil out of the machine.

Obviously the oil should be changed every season. But how many miles is recommended between changes. Also what is the difference between the Nitro and Nitro ER.

Thanks for the input guys. Dealer's got me looking at an Apex ER. I will be driving Yamaha next here. That 3 year warranty will be nice too! First non Polaris sled ever for me! Lack of service from Polaris made me see the light!

Pretty much the same reason I switched. You'll be happy with your decision.

The 1000 cc yammies have almost 150 HP not 120?
Awsome sled. Just bought one this year. 2 stroke still fun but won't go back.

The Nytro is like 978cc 120 hp, the Apex is 998 cc 150 hp.

You won't be disappointed. The Apex RTX is an awesome sled. I'd love to pick one up, but my vector is fast enough/powerful enough, and probably gets better gas mileage.

As explained to me. The difference is the front shocks. RTX has the Fox Float air shocks and the Er has the Aluminum-Body Mono- Shock. Also the the windshield RTX low, ER meduim.

Polaris to Yamaha? YIKES!

I was hoping to see something from Polaris for 07 that catches my fancy but it looks like the Yamaha Apex RTX ER might get the nod. I only have concerns about the rear skid getting smashed out of it since I'm pretty hard on suspensions. My current 03 Pro X 800 has an awsome skid and I hope the Yamaha might be as robust.
Can anyone comment and take away my fears?

Well. I can't calm your fears. I am no Yamaha expert but am aware of this problem as well. I am only 160 lbs and not that hard on the equipment. Also I do not jump. I pretty much figured I will not have any problems in that area for these reasons. You are very wise to be investigating this! I will stay tuned.

4 Strokes

I just sold my 2 SRX's and stepped up to an 06 Apex and 06 Vector GT. Really anxious to try 4 strokes. Heard a lot of good things.
