When you're looking at a track think about the kind of riding you're going to be doing. You won't want a 3 inch paddle if you're riding on hard packed trails, so consider lug height and the tub of paddle (ie. those new finger tracks). Do a lot of research on different manufacturer websites and even call them and ask them.

As for the studs! Studs are a good idea because they improve traction which means that you're in control more often! Better acceleration and braking are among the plus sides to studs. The disadvantages are that they are more expensive and add weight. It's an easy but tedious job to do yourself, but you'll save some cash from not having to pay labour at a shop. Also don't get cheap with the studs! If you buy good quality studs than they will last a lot longer and stay sharp. If you buy cheap studs to save some cash you'll end up replacing them because they will rust, break off, or bend!

i would say a 1" or 1.25". the connected cone and ripsaw tracks are good ones to look at.

Just make sure those studs don't rip apart your tunnel. Low suspension on the older models.

Weight isn't really that much of an issue. Considering the track itself will weigh like fifty pounds, a couple more pounds won't make much of a difference overall.
