Speedo Cable '97 Venture 500

The speedo stopped working. Turns out to be the little "key" that is in the driveshaft is broken. I am replacing the bearing, but I can't get the rest of the key out of the driveshaft. Anyone have any tips?

Thanks

Get one of those little dental picks they sell at tool stores, Sears, etc.

If you can't find a pick, the collet that is in the shaft can be popped out with a claw hammer. then you can push the piece out and then just tap it back in.

good idea

Yup, good idea. The yamaha parts guy sold me a new collet and said to use an easy out to pull it out. Pretty cheap.. so I will try that. #$@^ little bugger!

use two hammers and put the claw against the collet and tap firmly with the other one, the collet will pop out. after you get the piece if the pin out, you can replace the same collet and it will stay in just fine. Just be sure that you drive it all the way in.
