Recoil

I got a 1981 yamaha enticer 250 and the rip cord broke a couple of days ago, and being brave knowing i have changed ones before i started taking apart the recoil and when i got too the string i changed it then ZINNG the little steel coil thing that you have to wrap around like 1000 times flew out, i was wondering if there are any secrets to getting those pieces of shit back in, ive tried like 3 times and just got cuts all over my fingers when it flies out.
Appericate the help

you can rewind them, its a big pain in the ass though. i just get a new spring if they fly out. they come pre rolled. hehe, just put it in, and cut the tape
