1989 Yamaha Phazer

Hi,
I just bought a 1989 Yamaha Phazer yesterday.
I took it for a small ride and while I was driving it, the pipe got red hot and it started to blow sparks?
What would cause this?????? The fan is still working on the motor, any ideas?
I was really hoping to go for a ride. It has allot of power for a old sled

Thanks for any help

Running too lean. Check your spark plugs. Are they a dark brown color? If they are light tan to white, it's too lean.

Cool stuff!!! This is a long shot but check the ignition timing. Could be a broken flywheel key sending the timing way out. Check also fuel delivery (carbs, jetting, etc.), also make sure fan shroud is clean (see if hot air is coming out of the clutch side of shroud).

also check to see if there is anything in the pipe such as acorns or somthing came loose in the pipe ive heard of that happening. Try blowing compressed air through the pipe. youll have to take the pipe of ofcourse to do this.
