hood on '86 srv

Last year my '86 srv was wrecked and destroyed the hood. I just got a different one for it but there is a problem. The hood I got wa from what I believe is a early '80 sled ( gray hood w/ blue pinstripes) and doesn't have a couple of vent holes cut into it. The one I am concerned about was on the '86 and there was a shroud under a vent that lead to the fan on the side of the motor. The other hood doesn't have this cut into it. Will the motor need this vent hole for cooling or could I get away with the other hood? I just about ready to rebuild the motor so I don't want to wreck a new motor by doing something wrong. Would it be possible to cut those holes in the hood if I need to? Any help would be great.
