apex rear suspension

sometimes on my apex around 20mph I'm hear a "clunk" sound coming from underneath the tunnel after I hit a small bump and noticed that sometimes there seems to be to much sag in the rear susp because there is slack in the limiter strap. Any suggestions? what is the "standard" weight set-up from the factory, geared I'm about 205lb.

rear suspension clunk

I also notice the same clunk at times, I just had the new racing spring installed, the 0030 #, I don't know how it works yet because we are out of snow. Going to Quebec on the 10th will let you know, This spring is not listed in the standard catalog and cost over $200.00

All of the owner reviews that I have read have said that the rear suspension is too soft. If you are over 180# then you should get the heavy rear springs.

Yes, I installed the H.D. spring and it made my sled ride awesome. Still plush as it is a progreesive rate spring. No more constant harsh bottoming. I also dropped the mail (1-2-3-) Spring seat clip back down to the #1 position with the heavier spring. Fact is' a smaller spring set tighter will bounce much more than a heavier spring set lower. Heavier spring will actually give you abetter ride as you will be able to decrease the preload and have less tail kick while still avoiding bottoming when the big one hits. The best 99.95 I ever spent.

I am 210 and have main spring seat clip at softest position and the 1-7 preload set to 4. Also RA set to 5-8 out from hardest--Great combo!

Hope this helps.

Watch all your wheels underneath too,the rubber wears off, there is an issue with the wheels and I think it's because they are really cheap. I never wore rubber off wheels and seen them twist on my Polaris's. All just to save weight I bet. My dad's and someone elses Apex the I know did the same.

I love my Apex, but I've gone through 2 sets of slides already with only 1,300 miles. I've been on good snow,at least I think I have, been on worse and Yamaha says just not enough snow to keep cool,I ask what's enough snow than! The U.P. of Michigan isn't all that bad,I thought it was great this last weekend for the little snow we have recieved lately, thinking maybe changing brands again if this is how bad Yamaha slides hold up. I know it doesn't sound like a big deal, but 725 and 520 mile trips and each time have to change slides sucks, never had to on my Polaris's. The other guys I ride with on Polaris and Skidoos were just fine, starting to get slightly frustrated!

The wheels are warranteed. Take the sled in so they have proof,I took mine and my dad's wheels off and Yamaha wanted to see them on the sled. They do have some issues with the rear suspension overall I think, like can't keep any snow in it to keep slides cool and wheel issues, mine are ok yet now that they have been replaced.

Ive got the same issue with my ok attack, 350 miles sounds like the rear shock is topping out, not bottoming out, 175lb rider here, also melted slides to track, engine likes to over heat, blew a belt into 1000 pieces (that was odd) but after all that its still one sweet ride..................

I picked up my new attack last week. I now the mechanic reel good. He told me that there is a issue with the slides and the rubber on the wheels. Also I think the hand warmers need to be improved also. Other than that I love the sled.

So did your mechanic say if Yamaha was trying to fix this problem with something different or are next years models going to have the same problems? I've seen all these problems so far on my Apex and so has my dad.

Ive got all the same isues with my attack my mechanic said they will replace wheels and sliders under warrantee, the clunk in the back is a combination of the limiter strap and control rod, you can adjust control rod just ask dealer how to do or look in owners manual it will help, he also said hope to have updates for grips, slides, and wheels in the fall. Oh yea dont drop anything in the engine compartment or it will be lost forever..............

That's pretty much true about not dropping anything in the engine compartment, during the oil change especially.
